Garment Care Guide

Our garments are made from natural materials that are meant to be worn, lived in, and loved. A little extra care will help them last for years to come.

A NOTE ABOUT NATURAL FABRICS:

Natural fibers are not indestructible. Slight fading, wrinkling, softening, texture changes, and other signs of wear are normal and are part of the beauty of natural materials.

When in doubt: wash less, use less heat, and handle gently.

Oathwoven Outfitters is not responsible for damage caused by failure to follow these care instructions, including damage caused by hot water, high heat, dryers, bleach, harsh chemicals, improper washing, soaking, scrubbing, or other prohibited care methods.

If a “NEVER DO THIS” instruction is ignored, the garment will not be eligible for refund or replacement due to resulting damage.

If you're unsure how to care for a particular garment, please contact us before washing it. We would much rather help you than have you accidentally ruin something you love!

DO THIS

For everyday wear, airing your garment out between wears can greatly reduce the need for washing.

When washing is necessary:

Wash gently by hand or on a gentle/cold cycle.
Use a mild detergent.
Reshape while damp.
Air dry whenever possible.

Natural fabrics may soften, wrinkle, shrink, or change slightly with washing. That's part of their character!

NEVER DO THIS

❌ Do not use hot water.

❌ Do not scrub, wring, twist, or aggressively agitate.

❌ Do not bleach.

❌ Do not put in a dryer.

❌ Do not leave soaking for extended periods.

❌ Do not dry in direct sunlight.

NEVER DO THIS

❌ Do not machine wash or soak.

❌ Do not use bleach, household cleaners, or harsh chemicals.

❌ Do not dry with a hair dryer, heater, or other direct heat.

❌ Do not leave in prolonged direct sunlight.

❌ Do not use alcohol-based or harsh solvents on leather or fur.

❌ Do not aggressively brush, scrub, wring, or twist fur.

❌ Do not store fur in airtight plastic bags or damp environments.

❌ Do not use mothballs directly against fur.

If fur becomes heavily soiled, wet, matted, or develops an odor that gentle airing cannot resolve, please consult a professional fur or leather cleaner rather than attempting to wash it yourself.

NEVER DO THIS

❌ Do not use bleach or harsh chemicals.

❌ Do not use very hot water.

❌ Do not aggressively scrub or wring.

❌ Do not use high heat in the dryer.

❌ Do not leave wet garments sitting in a pile.

For dyed, embroidered, stamped, or heavily embellished garments, hand washing is always the safest choice.

DO THIS

Start with spot care whenever possible.

For body odors and “smelly spots” such as underarms and necklines, lightly mist with our Idunn’s Rinse Garment Spray and allow to air-dry.

For more serious cleaning:

Fill a basin or bathtub with warm, NEVER HOT water.
Add approximately a dime-sized amount of baby shampoo.
Gently place the garment into the water.
Agitate the water, not the garment.
Rinse gently with cool or lukewarm water.
Lay flat or hang to dry away from direct sunlight.

Please try the Idunn's Rinse first! Full washing should be reserved for extreme situations

DO THIS

Leather and fur prefer less cleaning, not more.

For leather:

Wipe away dirt with a soft, slightly damp cloth.
Allow leather to air dry naturally.
Condition periodically (approximately 1x per year depending on use) with Frigg’s Touch, our leather-safe conditioner or balm. You can also apply a light conditioning after spot cleaning if the leather feels dry.
If needed, you can waterproof your leather item with Skogr Trail, our leather balm.
Store somewhere cool, dry, and well-ventilated.

For fur:

Shake or gently brush out loose dirt and debris.
Spot clean small areas with a slightly damp cloth when necessary.
Allow fur to air dry naturally.
Store somewhere cool, dry, and well-ventilated, with room to breathe.

Frigg's Touch Leather Conditioner

A hardworking leather balm inspired by the trails and wild places that our garments are made to travel through. Skogr Trail helps nourish and protect leather while adding a layer of water resistance for everyday adventures.

For use on: Leather goods, footwear, accessories & garments. Always test on an inconspicuous area first.

Skogr Trail Leather Waterproofing Balm

Formulated in small batches, our natural leather conditioner is made to keep your leather supple, moisturized, and ready for years of use. Use periodically to replenish the oils leather naturally loses over time and after spot cleaning when your leather feels dry.

Freyja's Breath Garment Refresher

A simple, vodka-based garment refresher made for freshening your favorite garments between washes. Perfect for “smelly spots” like underarms and necklines, Freyja’s Breath helps extend the life of your garments while keeping them fresh and ready for another adventure.

For use on: Silk, wool, linen, cotton, bamboo & other washable textiles.

Idunn's Rinse Delicate Fiber Wash

A gentle wash for your most delicate natural fibers. Made with a mild cleansing base and a light blend of essential oils, Idunn’s Rinse is designed for the occasional deep clean of silk and wool without the harshness of conventional detergents.

For use on: Silk, wool & other delicate natural fibers.
