Historical Accuracy
Our garments are sized according to shoulder width rather than traditional small/medium/large sizing, giving us a more meaningful starting point for fit across a range of bodies. Our four standard sizes (Sif, Skadi, Thor, and Ymir) are designed around shoulder measurements, with the rest of the garment patterned to complement that proportion. If you’re unsure which size is right for you, we’re always happy to help you find your best fit. We also offer a limited number of fully custom orders each year, reserved primarily for weddings, special occasions, and other pieces that require a more individualized approach. These slots are intentionally limited so we can give each custom garment the time and attention it deserves.
Our garments are historically inspired and informed, drawing from surviving garments, archaeological evidence, artwork, textiles, and the cultures and trade networks that inspire our work. We believe historical clothing should be a starting point for creativity rather than a restriction, so we sometimes make intentional modern adaptations where they improve comfort, durability, or movement. For example, our sleeves use modern patterning without traditional gussets, allowing for a greater range of motion while still maintaining the overall silhouette and character of the historical inspiration. The result is clothing that feels rooted in history while being made for modern people who actually want to live, work, move, and adventure in it.

Our turnaround times depend on the type of order. Choosing a different color or trim for an existing design typically takes 1–2 months, while a completely custom outfit (including design development, measurements, fittings, and revisions) can take 6 months to a year. Because fully custom work requires time and attention, we accept only a limited number of custom projects each year. If you’re planning to wear your new piece to an upcoming festival, let us know when you place your order!
Whenever possible, we’ll work to have it ready for you to pick up at one of our events, saving you the cost of shipping while giving us the chance to see you in your new garment.
We love meeting our customers in person! You can find us throughout the year at festivals and events across New Mexico and Texas, with more locations coming as we grow. Our current festival schedule is always listed on the home page, so check there to see where you can find us next.
Shopping in person also gives you the opportunity to see our fabrics and garments up close, try things on, talk through fit and customization options, and take your new piece home with you.
We work primarily with linen, cotton/linen blends, bamboo, full-grain leather, fur, and silk, choosing materials for their beauty, durability, and connection to the historical and cultural traditions that inspire our work. Our linen and cotton/linen garments are pre-washed and pre-shrunk and can generally be machine washed and dried; heavily embroidered pieces should be hung to dry to protect the embroidery.
Other materials should be spot cleaned or hand washed according to the care instructions provided with your garment. For complete care and repair information, visit our Care & Repair page on the website.
